At Vermont Recording Studios, we remove the barriers between you and your sound. No isolation booths, no distractions—just pure creativity in the heart of the Green Mountains.
Leveraging the technical precision of a professional recording engineer and the industry expertise of a multi-million dollar pro audio specialist. From launching Guitar Center’s elite GC Pro division to delivering multi-platinum audio production, I create strategic narratives that drive world-class results for Vermont’s creative and professional communities.

Founded in 2022 by John Sawyer, Vermont Recording Studios is nestled in the scenic town of Chester, Vermont. We feature a curated blend of world-class analog and digital recording and mixing equipment. However, we believe the gear is only as good as the inspiration behind it—our focus is always on you, the artist.
Whether you are recording, mixing, or mastering, we strive to make your studio experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We’ve found that when artists are relaxed and having fun, it translates directly into the music. To foster this energy, our studio features an open-concept layout without isolation booths or barriers. At Vermont Recording Studios, we are all in this together, communicating freely to capture the best take.
From solo performers to full bands, we provide the professional environment and expertise needed to bring your vision to life.

John Sawyer has been a fixture in the recording industry since 1993. His career began while attending Full Sail University, where he served as an engineer and tech for Tabitha’s Secret (the founding core of Matchbox 20). John eventually received a Multi-Platinum sales award for his work with the band.
Following graduation, John completed a prestigious internship with the legendary Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG). There, he combined his background in architecture with his passion for studio design, notably working alongside the iconic Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin).
John’s career then took him to New York City as a staff engineer at Giant Recording Studios, where he worked with legendary artists including:
In Miami, John co-owned Mad Hatter Studios and became a premier expert for Pro Tools sales and studio integration across the Caribbean. Instrumental in launching Guitar Center’s GC Pro division, providing expert studio integration and high-end gear solutions as a multi-million dollar account manager.. His credits expanded to include Barry Gibb (The Bee Gees), Barbra Streisand, Scott Stapp (Creed), Ronnie James Dio, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Lauryn Hill.
After serving as the Director for The Pro Tools Training Center in Nashville, John relocated to Chester, VT. In 2020, he began his most personal project: designing and building his own studio from the ground up. Every acoustic treatment and piece of gear was hand-selected to meet the highest industry standards, featuring names like Solid State Logic (SSL), Dangerous Music, Focusrite, Neumann, and AKG.
Beyond the technical accolades, John is known for being easygoing and collaborative. He is a true lover of music who is dedicated to helping every musician turn their creative dreams into reality.
